Gray unit represents the amount of enery deposited when a substance is exposed to radiation.  1 gray radiation in the atmosphere is equivalent to 1 sievert.

Take note that the levels in the Daiichi Nuclear Power plant before the earthquake ranged from 0.028 to 0.079 microsievert per hour.
